Spring Street Style Fashion Trends

Hey guys, yes it has been awhile. I always promised myself I would never be one of those people that has to apologize for not posting on a certain platform in awhile. Unfortunately, here I am. Guilty as charged.

Out of all platforms, I can’t believe it had to be my website. My excuse is that I felt like I just transferred all of my blog content onto my YouTube channel. If you’ve been keeping up with that platform I am now posting twice a week over there, every Tuesday and Friday. Shameless plug right here: please subscribe if you haven’t already.

Today I will be highlighting my top 3 street style fashion trends from this Spring! There are many new up and coming trends as well as trends that have been carried over from this past year. Today I will highlighting the trends that I have fully taken on and embraced. Meaning specifically the ones I have been wearing the most this season.

The Smocked Top

Anyway, lets just jump right on into it! One of my absolute favorite trends seems to be the smocked top (what I call the scrunchie top.) I am not sure what else to call it or how else to describe it, but you know the shirts that scrunch up and then have super power stretch to them. They have come straight out of a time warp from the 80’s.

I have this shirt pictured here in both yellow and white. They were $9.90 each from Forever21. You can’t tell here, but they are both cropped. I just thought they would be a super easy and somewhat trendy top to add to a cute pair of jeans for a go-to summer outfit. Yellow is a color I haven’t worn for literally 5+ years, but I was inspired to try it out and now I am totally obsessed.

The Thrifty Denim

This one is definitely a trend that everyone of you should be completely aware of and have already taken on! This is one of those trends that I wouldn’t go overboard on and splurge on $200 jeans because they could easily be out of style in a year or two from now.

I have never done this before, but again was inspired to try something new and this was a huge light bulb fashion moment for me. This is where the thriftiness and designer moment collides. I was shopping in TJMaxx one day, and let me tell you, they have the best designer jeans discounted. Side note: I always find great Paige,  JBrand, or Hudson jeans there.

Anyway found a really cute pair of flared Hudson Jeans. When I picked them up I thought they were going to be cropped. Long story short, I ended up trying them on and they were a full length flare.

I was super disappointed because they were only $29 (originally $198). I decided I would bring them home and think about it. Ended up looking at them hanging up one night as I was laying in bed and realized I could get them tailored to be that perfect cropped length.

Some of you may be wondering why get them cropped? I swear by cropped pants! Everyone of my pants hits at my ankle or above, if they don’t then I always roll them. I like to have shoes that hit above my ankle and shorter pants. You may think this will make my legs look short. It doesn’t, because I also swear by high rise jeans so my legs look like they take up 3/4 of my body anyway.

I ended up paying $25 in alterations at Nordstrom (if you are familiar with their credit card policy, I was later reimbursed for that $25 with a Nordstrom note back to the store). Not bad for a custom pair of Hudson jeans. I doubt I’ll ever seen anyone else walking down the street wearing the same pair and that’s the coolest part!

The Hair Scarf

The what?! Did Alli just say that head scarfs are trendy and she is on board with it? Well, yes I did. Again, I don’t think I have worn a head scarf or any type of head accessory besides a hat since High School.

And I think that is absolutely the reason why. In high school, all I wore were headbands and sweatpants and since I’ve graduated from High School and now College, I wear neither and refuse to because I used to live them.

However, this is definitely not a workout headband I am talking about here. This is a scarf that can be worn around your neck, as a belt, as a purse accessory, in your hair, or my personal favorite is around my ankle (just to be different and fashion forward). The scarf can be functional, but isn’t meant to be.

This right here was a key accessory for my Los Angeles trip. I purchased it from Target because it was so west coast and boho girl, but I will be wearing it here in Cincinnati as well.

Trend Adoption Stage

I am curious! Have you guys adopted any of these trends yet? What I mean by this, often times I am very familiar with a trend and sometimes I am immediately on board and other times I am a bit more hesitant.

Sometimes I just like to see it play out, see how different people style it, what kind of people are rocking it etc and by the time I decide whether or not to adopt it I usually am still ahead of the game! That is the advantage on being up to date with trends right off of the runway.

Like I mentioned, I really hope you have been on board for trend number 2, the thrifty denim because this is something that anyone can pull off and if you’re a pretty simple person, this little detail on your denim can really add something new and fresh to your current wardrobe.
