Key Leather Pieces Everyone Needs in Their Wardrobe

This year, I have decided that I am specifically going to invest in quality pieces over quantity. Some quality leather pieces I have already invested in include a leather jacket, two leather backpacks, and some leather pants.

When I was younger, I just wanted more and more and more. It was a never ending cycle. Christmas was my favorite day of the year because I got the most amount of clothes that day of the year as opposed to all of the other days of the year. This day is still my favorite day of the year, but for different reasons.

Right now in my life, I’ve gotten to a point where I realize that there isn’t much space left in my closet, and no the answer isn’t “I need a bigger closet”. This year I have decided that instead of getting a bunch of new clothes that I will wear a few times and then move to the back of the closet, I would rather invest in a quality piece, even if it just means opening one present. I’ve never just received one Christmas present from my parents, but there is a first for everything and I’m determined that this gift will be worth it.

This is a gift that I could afford on my own, but something that would probably be a little painful to just purchase for no rhyme or reason. These are the types of gifts I like to ask for, for Christmas. I like call them investment items. My brother would yell at me for using the word “investment” because it doesn’t make me money in return, however it does add long term value to my wardrobe even though it is depreciating everytime I wear it.

Here is my list of key investment items everyone needs in their wardrobe for 2019.

Backpack

The investment item of this Christmas is going to be the All Saints Kita Leather Backpack. This is a backpack that I originally saw one of my old coworkers at Nordstrom wearing. This coworker typically dresses head to toe in designer, and very high end designer. I thought the backpack looked awesome, but I almost didn’t even bother asking because I thought it would be +$900.

I decided to ask anyway, and to my surprise it was All Saints! All Saints is definitely still designer, but I would consider it affordable at the same time. Since that day, I’ve had my eye on this bag. It’s been about two years since I decided I liked the bag, and still haven’t taken it home. This is the longest I’ve ever waited for something without buying it or moving on. I’ve been waiting for it to go on sale and it’s always the seasonal colors that get discounted, but never the black.

I decided that this Christmas was going to be the year that I finally pull the trigger and make this my one investment piece.

Wallet

I didn’t just stop with the backpack, but I realized that I needed a new wallet as well. I absolutely love the wallet I have, but it cost me $12 and I purchased it maybe 6 years ago. I just decided it was time for an upgrade. Guess the brand! And now would probably be a great time to let you know that this blog post is not sponsored by All Saints. (I just really love their items, and especially their leather).

I wanted a classic black leather wallet that would last me just as many if not more years than my current wallet, so I decided to get the Ray Leather Wallet. I am a little bit of a credit card addict so I need my wallets to have plenty of credit card slot holders. This wallet did just that for me.

I also love that it is classic, but yet has a unique closing to it at the same time.

Leather Jacket

Another great leather piece that everyone should have in their wardrobe is a quality leather jacket. It took me two years to find a leather jacket that I absolutely loved. I guess the common theme here is that All Saints is the way to go and be patient about it!

Don’t rush a purchase just to complete a leather checklist. Investment items are worth it to carefully consider, especially if this is one of your first real investment purchases. This leather jacket, was my first ever real investment piece. It was more expensive than the purchases I had owned at the time, and I wasn’t even sure what my size was. I had just heard great things about All Saints at the time, and decided it was worth a shot.

This may come across as dramatic, but when you come from the fashion world, you understand that it is absolutely true. A clothing item can change your life. Yes, I am here declaring that this leather jacket changed my life. My fashion game, comfort, and confidence haven’t been the same since.

You may see the price tag as $498, however I did receive about 40% off due to a holiday sale going on. But, now that I’ve owned the jacket for two years and realize how often I wear it, I would honestly pay full price for it in a heartbeat. This jacket gives me life and goes with about 80% of my wardrobe.

Shoes

There is nothing like a solid leather shoe. Leather is great for shoes, because once you break them in, they will fit like they were made for your foot. I feel like at this point I need to talk about a different brand than I have been the rest of the entire article. I truly love Madewell’s leather products as well.

Madewell is a bit more affordable than All Saints, but yet still requires an investment. Madewell has their very classic leather tote bags and boots. One pair of leather boots that I would love to showcase is their Ramsey Chelsea boot. I love this boot because of it’s off white tone, and cowgirl styled boot. This is pretty trendy for Madewell, yet still sticking to somewhat of a classic shape. I would absolutely wear these booties to death.

Final Words

So after reading this article you may be wondering, why leather? If you’re looking to find a quality item that is worth your investment, I will always suggest leather. Leather is timeless and durable so no matter what you go through with your item, it will last a “lifetime”. I’ve had my leather jacket for two years now, and let me tell you, I have done life with it! We’ve been through a lot and besides that it fits my body perfectly now, it looks like it’s brand new.

Having a clothing item that doesn’t age with you makes the pennies you put down, so worth it. Let’s say I spent $400 on my leather jacket. I wear my leather jacket at the least, twice a week, all year round. With their being 52 weeks in a year and I wear it twice a week, then that’s 104 times/year. I’ve owned it for two years now so I’ve worn it roughly 208 times. $400 divided by $208, means that I pay roughly $2 every time I wear the jacket. I expect to own this jacket for the next 10 years, unless I gain weight (which isn’t in the plan). So imagine how much moneys worth I will get out of it in 5 years or 10 years from now! It’s unbelievable.

If you’ve never invested in a real leather item, I hope this blog post changes your life just like these pieces changed mine!

Overall Outfits: Summer Linen

One of my favorite things about summertime has to be linen overalls. Linen is a little bit more high maintenance than most materials, but is so breathable and comfy. With the summer heat and endless amounts of activities, I believe in the importance of a comfortable romper.

Summer Overall Outfits

A romper takes all of the benefits of wearing a dress, like not having to match your top with your pants, being able to just throw it on and walk out the door, and looking put together even if you got ready in five minutes, without the cons of making sure it doesn’t ride up and show anything, or if the wind blows and your dress catches it.

Besides having to go to the bathroom, the overall is the best one piece garment to have in your wardrobe. Believe it or not, this is actually the only overalls I own at the moment. All of the other overalls I have seen seem to be too formal for me. There are tons of great overalls or rompers out there for a night out, but what I love about this one is that it’s casual, cute, and perfect for a hot summer day.

How To Style Your Overalls

In this look, I decided to wear it completely solo and not steal any attention away from the well deserved pair of overalls. These overalls are so cute and classic on their own, that I didn’t really have to accessorize or dress them up very much.

I paired one of my favorite strapless mustard yellow bralettes underneath because the side drops down pretty low, and then added my favorite pair of platform van sneakers and called it a day.

I truly believe that sometimes less is more, especially when it comes to fashion. It can be super easy to over due it and keep adding more jewelry and more flare and by the end of it you look like a wreck. I always like to have my clothing speak for itself and not overdo it when it comes to accessories.

What I do love about overalls, is that there is so much styling to be done. People automatically think that overalls are super loud and therefor you have to do a simple shirt underneath no matter what, but that isn’t the case! Some of my favorite outfits have been when bloggers and stylist put a crazy shirt underneath their overalls such as an extreme pattern or print or even ruffles. Check out some of these looks:

  1. Ruffled Sleeves With Overalls
  2. Short Sleeve Ruffles With Overalls
  3. Off The Shoulder With Overalls
  4. Button Down With Overalls

Where to Shop for Overalls

Another great thing about this romper is that it was from Forever 21, so we all know the price tag couldn’t have been super hefty. The romper was actually under $20 and was one of the best steals I found all summer.

Not only do these overalls come in this gorgeous sandy brown color, they also carry it in black and amber. To be completely honest I am tempted to purchase all three colors.

My favorite overall brand of all time is Second Skin Overalls by Danielle Bernstein, which makes sense because Danielle is my favorite blogger of all time and was very influential to me when I started my own blog.

The fact that she was able to create such a successful brand, soley based off of overalls, shows how important a great pair of overalls or a jumpsuit is to your wardrobe. Danielle is implying that you can and should be wearing overalls on a daily or weekly basis.

  1. Houndstooth Overall Shorts
  2. Linen Blend Jumpsuit

Non-Seasonal Attire l How to Wear a Jumpsuit All Year Long

As always, thank you for stopping by and reading my post! I wanted to share with you one of my favorite summer outfits thus far. This jumpsuit is a slightly more mute shade of millennial pink. If you type in “trendy pink” on Google, it populates the word “Millennial Pink” (that’s how I figured out what it was called).
