Yes, fashion week ended a bit ago, and I am still talking about it. There were so many different celebrities, retailers, and bloggers involved in fashion week that are still finishing up their NYFW recaps. (hoping one day I can give my own live recap)
Last night while browsing on Pinterest, I decided I would do my own virtual recap featuring my top three favorite trends from NYFW 2016.
A great way to start to get ready for fall and slowly transition your summer wardrobe is to continue to wear your summer pieces but pair them with your fall accessories. For example, in this look, I wore my favorite summer slip dress with a scarf, fall booties, and a hat.
This slip dress has been trending all summer and not only do I plan on wearing it through the fall but also the winter. This outfit here is a great example of how I would style it for fall. By adding this scarf and hat, I haven’t added very many layers, but I have significantly impacted the entire vibe of the outfit.

One of the best trends you can wear during these late summer going into fall months is overalls. In this post, I am wearing an overall dress, but I am a huge fan of traditional overall shorts, and even an overall jumpsuit.
I specifically got these overalls from a lady who returned them to me while I was working at Nordstrom. Actually, the majority of my purchases made while at work are from other people’s returns. I know, it’s weird. Not just any return catches my eye, but specifically when I know this item is no longer carried in stock.
Since fashion shows are always a season ahead, I decided that since the NYFW Spring 2017 shows just finished, that we would throw it back to Fall 2016. All of the retailers and merchandise buyers have already moved on to the next season, but us normal people are still trying to figure out the season in front of us.
I love to be informed of all upcoming trends and colors in advance, but I also liked to focus on one season at a time. I’m assuming that most of you have just started shopping for fall 2016 since we don’t even have the option of shopping for Spring 2017 yet.
In order to prepare you for Fall 2016, I wanted to share the color palette that is trending this Fall! The colors are very “earthy” but vibrant in their own way. The quote from the Pantone Color Institute describes the palette in a better way than I could ever attempt. “Blue skies represent constancy as they are always above us. Grays give a feeling of stability, Red tones invite confidence and warmth, while the hot Pinkish Purples and Spicy Mustard Yellows suggest a touch of the exotic.”
