How To Get Away With Wearing Joggers Everyday
Growing up, I’ve always been tomboy at heart. I absolutely love sports and I love dressing like I’m going to the gym 24/7. Wearing joggers in a fashionable way has been one of the best things that has ever happened to me!
Even though I love being comfortable, I also like to dress up occasionally. It’s refreshing to mix it up here and there. In the past, looking put together and being “dressed up” meant being extremely uncomfortable. It was just something that I felt like I had to bear and sacrifice comfort for fashion. Today, it’s different.
The best part is that I know that I can get away with wearing a pair of comfortable joggers, without feeling like I am underdressed.
What is a Jogger?
It seems to be common knowledge that joggers are back in style. Joggers made a come back at least a year or two ago and hopefully are here to stay. Just like any type of pant there are all sorts of different joggers out there.
Joggers are technically made out of cotton or have a stretchy workout material. If you’re trying to decide whether or not a pant counts as joggers or not, ask yourself, “could I run in these?”.
If the pants look like joggers, but they are too nice to be worn jogging then they may be more of a cropped trouser. Anything with a cropped and loose fitted silhouette is in style, but wouldn’t constitute as a jogger.
Camo Print
If you have been following my blog, you know that I am a huge fan of neutrals. So joggers in any color of grey, black, white or tan, would be a winner for me. However, if there is one print that I will make an exclusion for, it’s camo.
Camo has been a print that I would argue has always been around and if worn right, will always be in style. For such a bold print, I’m glad to see that it can still be timeless. For me, I haven’t owned any camo until a few months ago. I had been looking for a great camo jacket for awhile, but hadn’t found one I loved.
A couple months ago I visited Alley Boutique in Loveland, Ohio and found an amazing pair of camo joggers and a camo jacket as well! These items could be paired together for the girl who loves to make a statement, or worn separately like I styled here for more of a subtle, yet fun look.
Pairing High & Low Pieces
The best part about joggers is that you can keep them dressed down or dress them up! I love wearing my joggers as lounge pants or to run to the grocery store with just a workout jacket or a big sweatshirt (to be completely honest).
Obviously because of the structure of a jogger and the fact that it is naturally an athletic pant, makes it easy to keep it dressed down. It is a little bit more challenging to dress up such a casual piece. In the past, as far as only five years ago, it was against the fashion rules to pair a casual item with a dressy item. Today’s day and age, it’s more than acceptable, but it’s encouraged to pair high and low pieces. High meaning, expensive or dressy, and low meaning casual or affordable, depending on the context.
I wanted to give you some tips and tricks on how to pair casual and dressy pieces together. Don’t get me wrong, there are multiple ways to go about this, fashion is a creative process. But, for joggers there is one formula you can follow if you aren’t much of a creative person.
Dressing It Up
Here is the secret sauce for dressing up joggers:
Fashion Sneakers + Joggers + T-shirt + Dressier Jacket
As pictured above, this is a great formula for dressing up joggers. You want the outfit to subtly move from casual to dressy. Sneakers are another casual fashion trend that has taken over the fashion industry. Sneakers are now being paired back to dresses, men’s suit’s, you name it and a sneaker is a great look.
For a daytime or casual, but put together night time look, this formula is unbeatable.
However, even the opposition works as well. If you wanted to take the joggers to the next level and make it a dressy night time look, I suggest going as far as pairing the joggers back to a pair of booties, or heels. Yes, high heels and joggers are acceptable!
I would have also paired my cropped leather jacket with this look for a fun night out.
Trench Coat
I paired these joggers back to a neutral trench coat. Because the joggers had such a strong print to them, I wanted the rest of the outfit to be neutral and toned down. Like my formula above mentions, I needed a dressier jacket for this look. I decided to grab my long neutral trench coat, because I wanted a lighter color to brighten up my look.
I also like the length of this jacket. I think a longer jacket, automatically brings a dressier vibe to the look.
Final Words
Most of the blog posts I’ve written recently, have to do with going against what most of us have grown up knowing as the fashion “do’s and don’ts”. One of my favorite aspects of fashion is that you can be as creative as you want with it. Each and every additional year, it seems like there are less and less rules.
Do you like this idea of mixing high and low pieces, and defying the fashion rules to have some fun? Do you feel comfortable styling yourself? If not, check out my personal styling service packages.
Another change in the fashion industry, is that you can have an affordable personal stylist. You don’t have to be some millionaire or celebrity to have the luxury of someone shop for you. I would love to style you in a way that brings, excitement, energy and confidence back into your personal style.
