My Career in Men’s Fashion Has Changed My Look

Thanks for stopping by my blog. I’m writing this post today because my style has changed a bit and has become more and more inspired by menswear and there’s definitely a reason for that. Let me give you a little bit of a background story. About one year ago from today, I was promoted from being a sale’s person in the BP & Topshop departments of the Nordstrom in the Cincinnati.  I loved working with the trend setters and influencer type age in the city because they were willing to be the most creative and have the most fun when it came to styling.

Last July, I was offered the Assistant Manager position in the men’s casual department of Nordstrom. This department would include that same young and trendy man as well as the older gentleman looking for a casual pair of jeans and shirt (essentially everything except suiting). However, because suiting was right next to us, I did end up learning about and selling a lot of suits.

I was excited about this management opportunity because I’ve been interested in men’s fashion for awhile. I’ve lived and breathed women’s fashion my whole life and just being the type of person that I am, I want to be the best and the most knowledgable when it comes to every area of fashion.

So I dove right into it my first day down in men’s. I studied the different denim styles, fits, and fabrics, and practiced learning how to tie a tie till I got it down. Today, I am no longer at Nordstrom, however it was one of the best decisions to move down to the men’s department. I learned so much about men’s apparel and am still using that knowledge today.

My daily outfits have continuously been inspired by menswear. Whether I am wearing an oversized white button up, or an oversized plaid blazer, or the chunky dad sketchers I am loving the menswear vibe.

I still genuinely love to style the men in my life, I often catch myself in the men’s departments more often than the women’s departments. In Cincinnati, my favorite menswear shops include my alma mater, Nordstrom, Blaine’s, and a new store to enter downtown Cincinnati, Hellman Clothiers.

The overall point of this post, is to encourage you guys to embrace menswear. Often times I think women are afraid to look manly or masculine. There is a fine line, but honestly menswear is in! My menswear clothing items are typically more oversized, like a white button up or men’s blazer. In order to counterbalance the amount of material and size of those items, I usually pair back to a skinny jean or mini skirt, to give it that feminine touch.

My favorite kind of fashion is mixing extreme opposites. I love to mix an edgy pieces with super feminine items, and same thing with the masculine trend. If you have a masculine pieces, pair it back to something very feminine.

What is your favorite menswear trend?! I’m always looking to welcome more menswear pieces into my wardrobe.
