Summer Color Trend Watch: Earthy Tones

Hi guys, thanks for stopping by! I am so excited to share this summer trend with you guys because it truly is a new one. Sometime’s fashion just seems like its repeating itself season after season, but that isn’t the case this year. Summer previously had the reputation for being that time of year when you could get away with wearing the brightest possible color.

Previous Summer Color Trends

I have been known to be neutral obsessed to the point where people openly make comments when I decide to wear color. Even if it’s a subtle green, people are shocked its not white, gray, or black. When it comes to summer though, I think most people have been drawn to wear more color, myself included.

I don’t go overboard, but I know myself well enough to know that there would be some summer days where I would wake up and really crave a bright, Legally Blonde type pink. This spring,  I decided to give yellow a shot. Yellow is a color I haven’t worn in multiple years, but all of the sudden had the urge to throw it on after making sure to perfect my summer tan first.

The Summer Color Palette

So far I’ve mentioned this burnt orange that I am wearing and beige. There are tons of colors that follow that earthy tone palette. Honestly, when you look in your backyard, or imagine nature, the beach, the mountains, the forest, it’s typically the colors you would see in these places. But, even more muted down.

Subtle shades of browns, greens, blues, oranges are all on the right color palette. I hope this image helps you visualize exactly what I’m talking about.

Earthy Tones

I promise it’s not just me by myself this year embracing the neutrals and I know this because of what the retailers are selling. The retailers don’t normally get on board until the trend is very official. It’s like after you start dating someone, but it’s not actually fully legit until you post a picture or go Facebook official. Same thing right? You don’t know a trend is legit until the retailers get on board.

This Kendall & Kylie crop top pictured, is from Pac-sun and was one of my favorite additions to my vacation packing list. Normally in the summer it is impossible to find a burnt orange top like this earthy tone. This crop top makes me feel like I could grab a pumpkin spice latte while enjoying myself on the beach. This isn’t the only shirt I’ve seen in stores that is embracing a more “fall” or earthy tone color.

For example, this gorgeous two piece set, from Free People, is a beautiful beige color. I believe it all started with Kayne’s embracing of neutral skin color t-shirts. Tan’s, cream’s, off white’s, browns, always seemed to be colors to avoid in the past.

Monochromatic

Not only are the earthy tones a big trend, but so are monochromatic looks. Finding something like the Free People two piece I just linked, or simply coming up with your own set is ideal. My advice is to keep your entire outfit in this color scheme. You can either do beige on beige or olive on olive, or you can mix and match the two.

There is so much freedom in this color palette to come up with different matches. Pretty much all of these colors would somehow coordinate with another, which is the best part! And don’t worry about contrasting, the entire point of a monochromatic look is the lack of contract. It’s all a similar shade, color, and pattern!

If you haven’t already embraced this trend, I hope this post encourages you to seek out some color choices you may not normally go with during the summer time. It’s like fast forwarding to fall without the weather change! Who knows, maybe we’ll be wearing our spring colors in the fall now?
