Minimal Home Decor Room Tour

Thank you so much for watching my minimalist room tour video! In the video, I show you the updates I’ve made in the past few months and where I got everything from.

In this post, I will go more into depth about why I chose certain pieces and how they all play off of each other. When it comes to decor, I like to do a lot of contrasting with styles while making sure everything coordinates at the same time.

This room does a great job of following the minimalist trend, while also having a personality of it’s own! I love fashion, and home decor so much because they can both describe me very well without me having to say anything at all.

Another style trend I like to follow in all areas of my life is juxtaposition.  Whether it’s fashion or home decor I love to mix opposite styles. So for fashion, Ill mix a super girly dress, with edgy black chunky boots. And for home decor, Ill mix a modern chair with a rustic coffee table to give the room that contrast and depth.

Minimalistic Home Decor Trends

The white walls, white desk, neutral colors and simple decorations are really what make this room very minimal. The black and white Prada sign that I DIYed is also a very minimal piece of art. Simple text and neutral colors make it very simple and modern at the same time.

I wanted the room to feel full and comfortable without going overboard. There is a fine line between a space feeling empty and cluttered. The strategy here follows the less is more approach without feeling like the room wasn’t completed.

Rustic Home Decor Trends

This room had very few rustic touches before I found this coffee table! This coffee table was an old shoe repair chest that had been sitting in my parents garage for over 20 years. I had been looking for a good DIY project (that I would be able to handle having absolutely no handy man skills) and so I had a vision immediately when I laid eyes on this chest.

I call it a DIY (you true DIYers will laugh at me) because the entire project entailed washing out the chest and taking the wheels off of it. There were only 3 out of 4 of the wheels still attached to it and they were covered in rust so although it may not have been the biggest DIY, it was still a proud moment for me.

I was planning on sanding it down and painting it, but I ended up loving the color and didn’t want to take any of the rustic look away from it.

The lantern book holder is also a small touch on the rustic side for decor. I liked the addition of the lantern because since the chest was on the smaller side (short and not very long). I wanted to add something to side of the chest to make it appear longer and the fact that the lantern is taller, it adds more depth and different heights to the center of the room.

This is a tip I learned from retail merchandising. When setting up a floor layout, you do not want all of the fixtures and mannequins to be the same height. You want to differentiate heights so the eye travels from one to the other. It makes it more interesting to look at it and adds to the visual appeal.

Bohemian Decor Trends

The Ikea plant is definitely my boho touch in this room. The plant and coffee table play off each other really well. They are my “pops of color” without necessarily being extremely loud. I wanted this space to still feel cozy like a home so I didn’t want to go overboard on the nuetrals. Green is such a natural color that it adds color without seeming like it.

In addition to the plant, the wicker chair from TJMaxx is the next boho statement piece. I love the contrast between the two chairs which is why I fell in love with this one so much. This type of home decor screens Los Angeles, which is why I’ve been so into it.

The third and final bohemian decor piece, is also from TJMaxx and it is the macrame hanging above my desk. At first I didn’t really want to go for one of these because they are one of those decor pieces that are so incredibly trendy, you feel a little lame buying one (kinda like ordering a pumpkin spice latte). But, I decided it was too cute not to pass up.

Glam Decor Trends

The circle mirror from Target above the couch is a very glam item. It is super minimal and simple, but the gold detailing around the edges gives it a sparkle of “glam”.

I would say that the fur pillow is also pretty glam. Because of the ombre grey, it seems a little less girly, but it reminds me of a shaggy fur coat! I always feel like a diva when I wear my shaggy fur coats out because they are so glam.

I normally wouldn’t go for glam pieces, but like I mentioned earlier, I am naturally drawn to darker and edgier items so it is important for me to add some glam pieces that give it a warm and cozy girl vibe. Another example of this, is the vase of flowers by the full length mirror. Because it’s April, those flowers add some freshness and girly vibes to the room.

Home Decor Style Wrap Up

Even though I didn’t mention all of the home decor styles, you could probably argue that this rooms has a piece of all home decor styles incorporated in it. And that was the goal! Obviously I was going to make sure I ended up with an edgier minimal room because those were my priority styles, but the room turned out so well because I wasn’t afraid to mix it up with different styles.

This room first started out as a dark green computer room that essentially doubled as a storage room for our taxing documents and clothes we wanted to sell on eBay. Luckily I took it over and have gradually been able to continue to update.

Here is the original room renovation tour of this office.
